Adeboye charges professionals on nation-building

The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, yesterday said unless professionals in the country rise to the modern challenges of Nigeria, the country’s pace of the growth might be hindered.

Adeboye, at the 8th Annual National Conference of Legal Officers of the RCCG held at the Youth Centre of the Redemption Camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, said the act of nation-building rested heavily on Godly professionals with high sense of social responsibilities and patriotism.

Speaking at the conference, with the theme, ‘Positioning the Church for National Impact,’ Adeboye, represented by his wife Pastor Folu Adeboye, deplored instances in which some lawyers of the RCCG denomination would take frivolous briefs with stunning claims against the interests of the church.

“We are aware of some members of this church, who in the recent times, have either taken the church to the court in their capacities as lawyers over menial issues or taken the briefs of their clients, who are also members, to court with demands for stunning claims. This is not good enough and I don’t think God is interested in such steps.

“We should always use our profession to advance God’s glories in the life of the church and members. Cheated indigent members should be assisted by you to get off the hook when in custody.

“Besides, you should form yourself into a solid group to lawfully challenge legal actions considered inimical to the growth of humanity, especially Christianity. “

The cleric commended the over 200 lawyers, including some Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), who attended the conference, and prayed to God for their continuous devotion to their profession, with abundance blessings.

Earlier, a senior pastor of the church, Pastor Femi Atoyebi (SAN) charged the church to increase its efforts on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a way of doubling its quests for soul-winning strategies.

Atoyebi, while reminiscing on the activities of the early missionaries in Africa, said the Christian faithful of old invested heavily on hospitals, schools and orphanages, with little or no monetary considerations, to win millions of souls for Christ and urged the modern Christian movements to replicate such efforts.

The legal officers representing each provinces of the RCCG across Nigeria were tasked on the need to participate in politics and mobilise members of the church to do same, especially in exercising their franchise and introducing Godliness into the country’s political terrain.

According to Ralph Nwalia, in his paper, said: “In Nigeria, people pool money together and sometimes take out loans to contest in elections and when they win, they suddenly became born again.

“These monies, however, must be returned with ‘substantial gratitude.’ Our system is not organised.”

Chief Legal Officer of the RCCG, Titi Adegbile, thanked the church for its supports for the conference, just as she appreciated the legal officers for their selfless services to the growth of the church.
